Common safety standards platform
Animated safety standards deliberately kept neutral-branded, so one clear way of working can be adopted across Northumbrian Water and its whole supply chain.
Northumbrian Water delivers its capital programme through a wide supply chain, which means safety-critical work is carried out by many organisations, each arriving with its own documents and its own interpretation of the rules. The company is building a common set of visual safety standards that everyone on its sites can work to.
Safety standards across utilities still live mostly in dense written documents, and every contractor tends to bring their own version. The result is a known industry problem: the same task done differently by different crews on the same programme.
Northumbrian Water saw the opportunity to replace that patchwork with one shared, visual set of standards, and asked us to help build it.
We are building an animated safety standards platform that shows each standard as a clean 3D scene: what good looks like, step by step, rather than paragraphs of text. The platform is deliberately neutral-branded, so supply-chain partners can adopt the same standards as their own rather than treating them as a client document.
The standards themselves are shaped with the people who use them. Workshops with 12 supply-chain partners feed directly into what each standard shows and how it is worded.
The first standards are live, covering excavation, site compound setup, and service avoidance. A wider set of eleven is in progress, and the next eight are commissioned.
